Texas Hibernian Division Updates
Austin: President Mike Joyce has piloted the chartering of the new and very active Austin Division, with the effortless assistance of brothers in Austin and San Antonio. Along with the new Irish Consulate in Austin, things are looking very bright. Hats off to Mike and the boys!
Sunday, March 15 was the ribbon-cutting for the Consulate in which President Joyce and President O’Halligan will be representing the AOH at this historic event.
Houston: President Jimmy O’Halligan, of Columkille Div. 1 in San Antonio, has also been in constant communication with his former hometown. Jimmy has secured
boots-on-ground assistance with several members-at-large to start the process of a deserved division for Houston again. Thomas Kelly has been extremely helpful in these efforts.
Dallas/Fort Worth: We have new revitalized efforts with Pres. O’Halligan working with Columkille members-at-large Patrick Kelly, John Chambers, Bill Doherty and others, including San Antonio transfer and fmr. Columkille President Tim O’Sullivan.
The North Texas Irish Festival just finished up last weekend and we look to have the groundswell to have an active division there this calendar year. The prevailing thought is to establish one division first and then start the splits once more members start coming on1oard. The expanse of the Gr. DFW area could warrant up to 4 divisions if we keep the efforts up. President O’Halligan also helped design the AOH logo for DFW, much like the one he personally designed for San Antonio & Austin.
E. Texas: President O’Halligan again working with opening another Division. This one is in East Texas! This Division may consist mainly of clergy, with only a few lay members. However, they are keen to have an active division.
San Antonio: President O’Halligan once again has led the charge with his right-hand and VP Dr. Sean Hipp (COL. US Army) on updating our division by setting up a new website aohsanantonio.com for members to communicate, pay dues, as well as a store to purchase merchandise and make donations via PayPal.
South Texas Alamo Irish Festival
Columkille Div. 1 will also represent the AOH at the South Texas Alamo Irish Festival at the University of the Incarnate Word this weekend. Several Columkille members, including President O’Halligan, VP Sean Hipp, Co. Sligo native and coach Adrian Brett will be playing for the Antonio San Patricio’s against Austin’s Celtic Cowboys. This Texas League GAA battle should be a good one as San Antonio has added several Irish born players to the squad along with many other Irish-American athletes learning the game. San Patricio’s Abu!
